Looking in the mirror and noticing a dark spot on your face or other part of your body can be troubling even if you’re aware that it’s rare for one to be harmful to your overall health. Brown spots that appear on your body can go by a number of names. They can be referred to as liver spots or even age spots since they begin to be most prevalent when you’re middle-aged. Having a brown spot on an area of your body that your clothes cover can be easier to accept than having one on your face, arms or neck. You may wonder what you ate or did that caused one or many to appear. The reasons why can vary.
Common Causes
Brown spots tend to start to appear as you age, but the condition that causes them can go back to earlier years of life when you may have spent time in the sun without applying lotions that offer protection from UVB rays, which can cause a variety of skin conditions that include Riehl’s Melanosis. Taking certain prescription medications can also result in changes to your skin.
Estrogen, some antibiotics and heart-related drugs can sometimes also cause certain areas of your skin to darken. Discoloration can be a symptom of other conditions such as Chloasma, which is also called Melasma. They can also be a sign that a woman might be pregnant. None of these conditions are life threatening. Even when dark spots are not an indicator of a larger illness, however, you may find them unpleasant and opt to remove them.
Available Treatments
At Adoro Medical Spa we offer two different treatments for correcting brown spots in addition to the skin care products. If you aren’t looking for treatment, we can prescribe you either Glytone or Avène products, both by Pierre Fabre Laboratories. We will create a personalized skin care regimen to ensure lasting results and guaranteed satisfaction.
For treatments we offer CO2 laser resurfacing to address brown spots. Laser skin resurfacing can also reduce or eliminate wrinkles, excess skin, bulges under the lower eyelids, and scars. It removes the top layer of skin and tightens the dermis through advanced laser technology. Healing time takes about one week, and final results are visible six to twelve weeks after treatment.
We also offer IPL/BBL photorejuvenation, which use the power of wavelength light to stimulate collagen production. This is different from laser treatments in that lasers only penetrate to one layer of skin, while the photorejuvenation machine can be calibrated to penetrate to different layers. This allows IPL/BBL treatments to solve more skin problems.
