Benefits of Photorejuvenation

Woman with freckles

If you have signs of aging on your face that you would like to reverse, you might want to look into photorejuvenation. While there are several other treatment methods available, photorejuvenation may be especially appealing if you are looking for a method that allows you to immediately return to your normal activities following the treatment.

Photorejuvenation is also referred to as Intense Pulsed Light therapy. It is conducted when high-energy light pulses are delivered by a special unit into the skin above the targeted areas. One of the benefits this treatment has to offer is the reduction of age spots.

Age spots are dark places that are scattered throughout the surface of the skin. Sometimes referred to as sunspots, the primary cause of their development is overexposure to the rays of the sun over time. All of the time spent soaking up the sun in the younger years can eventually take its toll on the condition of the skin. Dark spots on the skin develop as a reaction to the sun’s ultraviolet rays. When you are exposed to the sun, your skin produces extra melanin as a way of protecting itself against the harmful effects of those rays. The natural consequence of additional melanin is a tan since melanin is that substance that gives the skin its pigment. Too much sun over time can cause this additional melanin to gather in spots in concentrated levels.

The dark spots on the skin can be removed with photorejuvenation. As the skin is subjected to the treatment, the excess melanin begins to break down. Over the following days, the spots will begin to disappear.

Another benefit of photorejuvenation treatment is the removal of lines and wrinkles. They develop as the skin begins to lose its fullness. When it does, the looser skin becomes wrinkled. This happens to the skin because the collagen level begins to diminish with age. Collagen is a protein that provides fullness. Photorejuvenation causes the skin to produce more collagen, restoring the level to what it was before the wrinkles and lines began to develop.

Photorejuvenation treatment can be done in the comfort of our office. This is truly a procedure that does not involve downtime. The level of discomfort experienced during the treatments is minimal when compared to other treatment methods.

If you would like a younger look to your skin, you should ask our team at Adoro Medical Spa in Severna Park about the ways you could benefit from photorejuvenation. Contact our Severna Park office today to schedule a consultation!
