What Is BBL Photorejuvenation?

Blissful woman with long blonde hair touching her face

Not everyone who wants to correct skin conditions has the time to go through invasive procedures that have extensive recovery periods. For those people, one procedure growing in popularity is BBL by Sciton. BBL photorejuvenation treatments can allow you to get more radiant and healthier skin with a simple, non-invasive procedure.

At Adoro Medical Spa, we offer BBL face treatments. Learn more about this option, how we perform it, and what results you can expect.

BBL by Sciton: How Does It Work?

BroadBand Light (BBL) laser therapy, also called a photofacial or photorejuvenation, can treat a variety of skin conditions by using high-intensity pulses of light to treat any damage to your skin. Because it does not break the surface of your skin, BBL therapy does not require long recovery times.

As the BBL face treatment reaches the level where your skin produces collagen, it changes to heat energy, stimulating the skin layers. By producing more collagen, your skin can regain its firmness and become more even-toned.

BBL by Sciton uses different waves of light to penetrate different layers of your skin, helping you achieve the results you want. It can help treat many conditions, including:

  • Sun damage
  • Acne
  • Rosacea
  • Vascular lesions
  • Age spots
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Dull skin
  • Uneven skin tone
  • Loose or sagging skin
  • Large pores
  • Fine lines

We can treat the face, neck, chest, legs, arms, and hands. Unlike some laser therapy, which can only penetrate a specific depth level, we can customize BBL photorejuvenation depending on your condition and the results you would like.

BBL by Sciton works best for people with light skin tones. Darker pigment absorbs too much light; we can recommend other treatment options for people with darker skin. It is better not to get a BBL face treatment when you have a tan.

Benefits of BBL Face Treatments

One of the most important benefits that BBL photorejuvenation offers is the chance to target specific areas of your body, which some lasers cannot do.

It is a non-invasive procedure that lets you get right back to your life without any delays or restricted activities. For people who lead busy lives and cannot take entire days off, BBL by Sciton can be the solution.

Not only can BBL help correct skin issues like sun damage, but it can also stimulate collagen production, helping you fight the signs of aging.

Collagen is a protein that gives your skin its firmness while also keeping it hydrated. With age, collagen production decreases, and your skin loses flexibility. This lack of flexibility causes fine lines and wrinkles. By turning to BBL face treatments, you can give your collagen production process a boost.

Preparing for BBL Photorejuvenation

When you schedule your consultation with us, we will look at your skin and discuss the conditions you want to be treated.

If we think you are a good candidate for BBL, we will ask you for a list of medications you take as well as for your full medical history. It is particularly important to let us know about any medications you take that can make you photosensitive.

One of the most important things to remember when preparing for a BBL face treatment is to stay out of the sun for at least a month before the procedure.

You also want to avoid sunless tanners for at least two weeks before treatment. One week before the procedure, avoid chemical peels, waxing, and any products that contain retinol, glycolic acid, or salicylic acid.

We also recommend that you stop taking medications that cause blood thinning, like aspirin and ibuprofen. Avoid supplements like fish oil, vitamin E, and St. John’s wort.

The BBL Photorejuvenation Procedure

On the day of your treatment, don’t wear makeup, lotions, or moisturizers on your face. We will begin by cleaning the area we will treat before giving you protective goggles to wear. We will apply a gel and then begin the procedure using the BBL handpiece. If you would like a topical anesthetic, we are happy to provide it.

Each session can last between 20 and 40 minutes. Most people require four to six treatment sessions, which are scheduled in three-week intervals, to get the right results.

Once the session is over, you can get back to your life and regular activities.

BBL Face Treatment Recovery

After your session, you should apply a cool pack to the treated areas and make sure to avoid sun exposure. Don’t use tanning beds or sunless tanner products. We also recommend avoiding alcohol and strenuous activity for a few days.

Don’t scrub or pick at the treatment area, and avoid products with glycolic acid, salicylic acid, and retinol. You can apply makeup right after the procedure, but make sure you don’t rub the skin too much. Remove makeup with gentle cleansers, and don’t use anything abrasive.

To help your skin heal, apply gentle moisturizers to keep the skin hydrated.
