An Eyelid Lift is a cosmetic surgery intended to enhance the appearance of the eyelid and the appearance of the immediate area surrounding the eye. A blepharoplasty may also be performed to correct defects of the eyelids.
Eyelid surgeries are a great way to not only correct some eye area defects, but one way to help reduce the appearance of wrinkles and other signs of aging. This procedure is an excellent way for those who want a more youthful appearance without having to undergo multiple surgeries to recapture the essence of youth.
Blepharoplasties are generally outpatient surgeries, conducted under sedation or local anesthesia. Eyelid lift procedures are rarely performed under general anesthesia. Excess skin will be removed and fat deposits may be removed or repositioned, resulting in the eyes appearing to be more awake and rejuvenated. Most blepharoplasty surgeries are completed in under three hours.
A more younger looking appearance is one of the most desirable benefits of an eyelid lift in but the procedure has other benefits as well. Eyelid lifts may correct a variety of visual problems, such as decrease peripheral vision.
The most common and less severe complications that occur after an eyelid lift surgery are bruising and swelling. Swelling usually subsides within three to five days after having the surgery, while bruises may take one to two weeks to disappear. The eyelids and area around the eyes may appear bright pink or inflamed for a week or two. Rare but severe complications can include asymmetry and the lower lid turning inside out. Cases of temporary blindness occur in 1 out of approximately every 20,000 blepharoplasty surgeries that are performed.
