What Is Dysport®?
Dysport® is an injection of Botulinum toxin type A that is used to treat fine lines and wrinkles. Since these common types of wrinkles are caused by muscles contracting when you smile, frown, or make other expressions, relaxing these muscles may help smooth out some of those lines. Is Dysport® the Same as Botox?
Dysport® and Botox® both use Botulinum toxin type A as the active ingredient. The dose of Dysport® is different than other Botulinum toxin type A products. It is more diluted than Botox®, and it is formulated to spread faster. What to Expect From Your Dysport® Treatment
Before Your Treatment
Before your first Dysport® treatment, you’ll have a conversation with us to make sure the treatment is right for you. We’ll discuss your goals and your expectations and answer any questions you have about the treatment.
To help avoid bruising from the treatment, we may recommend that you avoid certain medications or activities prior to your appointment. The most common things that can cause bruising are blood thinning medications, aspirin, fish oil, and alcohol.
During Your Treatment
We always try to make you as comfortable as possible for your Dysport® treatment. The needles used are small, but if there is discomfort, we can apply a topical anesthetic. Then we will inject the area that we are targeting with the treatment. The process usually takes less than 30 minutes.
After Your Treatment
Most people can get straight back to their day after Dysport® injections. The treatment is fast and non-invasive, and some people can even get it done during their lunch break. You shouldn’t expect to see results right away. It will take a few days before you’ll start to notice a difference and up to 2 weeks to see the full effects.
After your treatment, you should take care of yourself. Try not to touch the skin or itch the injection site. You should also stay away from harsh sunlight, facials, or massages so that the treatment has a chance to settle in. You should also stay upright without lying down for at least 4 hours after the treatment.
Are There Any Side Effects to Dysport®?
As with any medical procedure, there can be side effects to using Dysport®. Most side effects reported are very mild and can include itching or redness at the injection site and some bruising or swelling. Some people also report a mild headache after the treatment. These side effects usually go away within the first two days.
More serious, but rare, side effects can include muscle weakness, drooping eyelids, blurred vision, and trouble swallowing or breathing. Make sure to only get these treatments from a reputable medical provider with a good reputation who will use an authentic product and proper techniques.
