BOTOX® treatment is a type of wrinkle relaxing injection that treats what are called dynamic wrinkles on the face. These wrinkles are formed by repetitive facial muscle movements in areas like your forehead, between your eyebrows, neck lines, and crow’s feet.

What It Is

BOTOX® itself is a type of liquid that we inject into facial muscles to prevent the formation of certain types of wrinkles. The product is composed of a purified protein serum carefully produced in a laboratory under controlled conditions. The company that produces it has an outstanding safety record spanning several decades.

Besides its cosmetic uses, injections can be used to prevent migraine headaches and treat hyperhidrosis, or excessive sweating. Injections are not normally administered around the mouth area due to concerns about difficulty speaking and reading when these muscles are affected by the treatment.

How It Works

BOTOX® is a treatment that acts as a type of nerve block. A facial muscle cannot contract if its nerve transmissions from the brain are not received. This prevents the formation of a dynamic wrinkle in the area of the injection.

What to Expect

If you have been cleared for BOTOX® treatment during your consultation process, the treatment should go relatively fast. You will be asked to lie on a table and make certain facial expressions to guide the placement of treatment marks. Just remain focused on your breathing and being relaxed at this time. Then we inject the product into facial muscles.

Product Safety

It may surprise you to learn that BOTOX® has been used for over five decades in cosmetic procedures. The treatment was once only for the rich and famous due to its expense. Today, it is widely used due to a reduction in costs in recent years. An allergic response to the injections is extremely rare.

Your Results

You should begin seeing your initial results in about four days after your injections. Maximum results may not become evident for up to two weeks. Within two weeks, you should notice a significant reduction in your lines and wrinkles.

Results typically last between three and six months. At around the three-month mark, you may begin to notice some return of facial muscle movement. It normally takes about six months for the full return of muscle movement. At that time, you will need additional injections to maintain your results.
