There’s a new alternative to Botox® and Dysport® – Xeomin®. Adoro Medical Spa in Severna Park, Maryland offers all three options for patients with moderate to severe glabellar frown lines (||s) between the eyes.
What is Xeomin®?
Similar to both Botox® and Dysport®, Xeomin® is a botulinum type injectable that relaxes nerves in the muscles between the brows that cause frown lines.
FDA Approved Wrinkle Correction
FDA approved in July 2011, Xeomin® is an exciting addition to the cosmetic market for many doctors and patients. The botulinum injection has therapeutic uses beyond its cosmetic benefits and can be used to treat blepharospasm (abnormal spasms in the eyelids), as well as cervical dystonia, which causes abnormal head position and neck pain.
Many cosmetic doctors call Xeomin® the “naked toxin” because it lacks complex proteins found in alternatives like Botox® and Dysport®. Pure botulinum is less likely to be rejected by the body, making it a great option for patients who have developed reactions to other brands.
Xeomin® vs. Botox® and Dysport®
All three injectables share a basic makeup, being derived from botulinum toxin A. Xeomin® and related products relax the muscles that cause deep worry lines in the forehead and around the eyes.
Xeomin® is unique from other brands because it lacks the complex proteins, making it less likely to be rejected by the body. Like Botox®, it takes about one week to see the full effects of Xeomin®. Results last about 3 to 4 months, similar to Botox® and Dysport®.
