Benefits of Using Medical-Grade Skin Care Products | Severna Park, MD

When you go to your local pharmacy, drugstore or department store, you will see that some of the biggest sections are dedicated to skin care products. There is a wide range of products that are available that supposedly treat just about any issue you may have with your skin. Some of the names behind over-the-counter skin care products are household names now.

However, if you have ever visited a dermatologist or a medical spa, you know that there is an entirely different world of skin care products that individuals who only purchase over-the-counter products know nothing about. These are medical-grade skin care products. Now, you might ask yourself, “Is it really that beneficial to purchase medical-grade skin care products as opposed to over-the-counter products?”

In one word, yes. And there are a couple of reasons why this is true. First, over-the-counter skin care products are designed to be used by the masses. The last thing that a company that sells their products over-the-counter wants is for a portion of the population to have a bad reaction to their product. In order to prevent this from happening, what they do is minimize the amount of the active ingredient they put into their product. This way, no matter who uses their product, no one ends up with a skin irritation.

While minimizing the active ingredient in a product is a good idea if you want everyone to be able to use it, it also means that the product is really not that effective. It’s not designed to provide anything but the most superficial effect.

However, with medical-grade skin care products, the product has been designed with you in mind. It is prescribed by a medical professional, and it has a large enough amount of the active ingredient to actually do something to treat the problem you have. This means that when you use a medical-grade product, you are going to see results that you could never have seen from a product you purchased over-the-counter.

There’s another difference between purchasing over-the-counter and buying something that is medical-grade. When you purchase over-the-counter, you are diagnosing your own skin condition. So you may purchase a product that is designed for someone with oily skin based on your personal observations of your skin. But since the majority of us are not skin professionals, our diagnosis of our skin care issues is subjective to our opinions.

However, when you visit our professionals at Adoro Medical Spa in Severna Park, they are going to use medical techniques to accurately identify the issues that you are having with your skin. Based on this diagnosis, they will prescribe you with a medical-grade skin care product that is going to treat what you have. Contact our office today to schedule your consultation to learn more.
